Marcus Rios 2012 DB Interview

This past weekend I had the chance to do an interview, with one of the top DB recruits in the country. Marcus Rios of Cosumnes Oaks High School has received offers from schools like Nebraska, Notre Dame, Boise State. But in January decided to stay in California and play for Jim Mora Jr at UCLA

Here is Marcus Rios Scout.com Profile:

Q: First off Marcus thanks for the interview. How has this senior season at Cosumnes Oaks?

My senior season has been great . being part of the tradition of integrity , Hard work and never surrender has been very rewarding , I started here as a freshman to start something new and great . Now headed into our first play off I am on tract .

Q: You are one of the most coveted DB's in the nation, with alot of high profile schools showing interest in you. What is it like to know some of the top schools in the country want you?

To me when any college shows interest , Its a remarkable feeling . I knew since I was in 7th grade I wanted a college education , I trained almost daily my family and I have sacrificed much for theses opportunities.

Q: With so many schools interested, what had the recruiting process been like for you, talking to head coaches, taking visits to campuses across the country, and attending national camps?

For me its just been a confirmation of what my dad and coach's have told me ."hard work will pay off" I don't get to high or to low regarding the recruiting process . There are so many great athletes through out the country I have been blessed to be noticed. The camps assured me I must never quit working never get out worked . Trying to be the best is a life style by all the greats I have had the privilege to train with this summer .

Q: Scouts rave about your man to man coverage skills, your length, and your toughness. What is one aspect of your game that you can't find on a scouting report?

I am young compared to a lot of other seniors I just turned 17 on the 25th this month . As my body matures and is able to endure harder workouts I will be faster stronger and improve in all areas .

Q: What is one part of your game that you feel, you really need to wok on to be the best Corner you can be?

I have trained so many yrs as a corner and worked on skills . For high school you can become complacent an cheat your technique because you maybe a little faster or stronger than your opponent . At the next level I will have to drop those bad habits . Every opponent will be able to capitalize mistakes

Q: Who do you compare your game most to either currently at the professional level or at the collegiate level?
No one

Q: Who do you accredit most for how far you have come as a football player and as a person?

Without a doubt it has been my family , They have taught me work is the answer to being a great person and great in all I do. Coach (Ryan) Gomes has put some final touches . He has pushed me to never surrender .

Marcus Rios not only possesses great instincts, and coverage skills he also has a tremendous knowledge for the game and a tremendous work ethic. He strives to be the best player he can be, and no one works harder or is more motivated then he is. A true talent both on and off the field, whichever college Marcus Rios picks, is going to get one heck of a football player.
