New Orleans Saints: The Saints made huge strides as a playoff team in this years draft. First they took one of the most balanced DE's in the draft with Cameron Jordan. Then thet trade back up to get Mark Ingram the best RB of this class, and a guy who can be a very good rusher for them and be their starter. Martez Wilson could develop into a solid LB and Greg Romeus was considered a 1st rounder if not for injuries. Great draft for the Saints
New England Patriots: Once again the Patriots spin a stockade of picks this year into early picks next year. They get a 1st rounder from the Saints and a 2nd rounder from the Raiders. Then they draft Nate Solder who could develop into the best LT in this class.Don't forget in the 4th round they draft Ryan Mallet who is NFL ready but fell to character concerns, and if the Patriots iron things out can trade him for high value. They also added first round caliber players in CB Ras-I Dowling and OG Marcus Cannon. The Patriots always find a way to get on here
Green Bay Packers: The rich continue to get richer after another great draft class. In the first round they take their LT in the future with Sherrod who if he can bulk up and learn to use leverage can be a stud. Then in the 2nd and 3rd round they get Randall Cobb and Alex Green. Cobb is electric at every position and reminds scouts of percy Harvin but is also high character. Then with the addition of Davon Hosue at CB it gives them a tough CB who is great in coverage. Every player drafted this year is also known for their high character. A great draft for the defending Super Bowl Champs.
Cleveland Browns The Browns started the day out with the 6th overall pick. They ended up adding a very good DT in Phil Taylor who fell a little because of a foot injury, but when healthy can be a stout anchor on the line. They also added a new DE in Jabaal Sheard who has the quickness to be a force off the edge. In the 3rd round they gave Colt McCoy a sure handed target in Greg Little. A very nice draft by Mike Holmgren and to top it off they got the Falcons first round pick in 2012
Houston Texans The Texans were coming in with a brand new 3-4 defense and Wade Phillips needed to start putting together his master piece. In the 1st round they added J.J Watt who ahs only begun to reach his potential as a QB's nightmare. They followed that up with Brooks Reed who could end up being a Clay Matthews clone with his constant hustle and energy. They also improved their secondary with brandon harris who although small, can turn into a solid starting CB. IT was a very nice draft for the beginning of a new 3-4 defense
Losers
Oakland Raiders The raiders entered the draft with no first round picks. So they had to make up for it in the following rounds, and that they did not. Stefen Wisniewski is a solid Center/Gaurd and also has family ties to the Raiders which made him the likely pick. After that is where Al Davis drafted based off his favorite measurable the 40 time. Demarcus Van Dyke was a 6th round prospect but was taken in the 3rd because of his 4.26 time. Joseph Barksdale and Chimdi Chekwa are both lnown primarily for their speed and had lower round values. Okaland Fans have to be wonderign when will the old man finally give up.
Seattle Seahawks A sub .500 team and they had the 25th pick in the draft. What do they do at 25 they take an OT who was projected to go late in the 2nd round.. They also added Gaurd John Moffitt and LB j.J Wright both nice but not great picks. The key thing they missed out on was a QB. They passed on Mallet in the 4th round, Dalton, Kaepernick in the 2nd and several others that could have been nice options. Not a very good draft for a team that was lucky to make the playoffs
Carolina Panthers After drafting Cam Newton with the 1st overall pick, which in a few years could really hurt their franchise for a long time. The Panthers had to wait until the 3rd round before they had a chance at another player (they traded their 2011 2nd to get Armanti Edwards). While they did address needs at the DL position they had a chance at Marcell Dareus. This draft could be looked back upon as one that hurt the team far more then it helped it, and don't forget if Cam newton doesn't work out he will still be making 60 million gauranteed.
Matthew Staffords Shoulder and the Lions secondary: The Lions added another great player in Nick Fairley and that really makes that defensive line a nightmare. Then they went out and added weapons for Matthew Stafford. But they failed to take a decent offensive lineman (they took one in Round 7) to help protect Stafford and they didnt draft any members for the secondary. They drafted 5 players and likely only 4 of them will make the team. Meanwhile Matthew Stafford will continue to get hit and his shoulder will continue to get smashed. Not good for someone taken No.1 voerall 2 years ago
Chicago Bears The Bears are on this list for two reasons. One reason is the Baltimore trade fiasco. While it was an honest mistakes things like this tend to be remembered by other teams, and that could hurt the Bears in future transactions. (especially after the James Starks issue last year). The Bears also have a weakness at WR which they did not address at all in the draft. Gabe Carimi will turn into a nice RT, and Stephen Paea is a force. But after Chris Conte there isnt much in this drafted class to like. (I don't expect them to hold on to Nathan Enderle)
