NFL Rewind Week 16

Instant Rewind
Under the Monday Night Lights Drew Brees picked apart the Falcons
Secondary and became the all time leader for Passing Yards in a Season
-It was a memorable and important week for the NFL in Week 16. Records were set, playoff seedings were clinched and one of the best RB's in the NFL went down with an injury/ First off Congratulations to Saints QB Drew Brees who passed Dan Marinos' record for most Passing Yards in a Season (5,084) on a 9 yard TD pass in the 4th quarter in a win over the Falcons to clinch the NFC South. On Sunday Night the Green Bay Packers bounced back from their first loss of the season to end the Bears playoff chances, and in the process lock up home field advantage throughout the playoffs. In Foxborough, the Patriots clinched a first round bye with a win over the Dolphins, and thanks to a New York Jets loss to the Giants, the AFC Playoff picture is looking very murky. The most devastating news though comes out of Minnesota where RB Adrian Peterson tore his ACL and MCL which could sideline him until early into next season. Week 16 was filled with excitement, sadness and some great football games. Now we head into the final week of this NFL Regular season, where the playoff field will be decided. I can't wait!

"Say What!!" Stats:

3,893: Passing Yards this season by Panthers rookie Cam newton. The most ever for a rookie

42: FG's made this season by 49ers K David Akers. The most in one season in NFL history.

99: Yard TD Catch by Giants WR Victor Cruz. It ties an NFL Record

1,358: Receiving Yards this season by Victor Cruz. A New York Giants record

(5,087): Passing Yards by Saints QB Drew Brees this year. Which passes Dan Marino for most in one season (5,084)

Defensive Player of the Week:

Brian Cushing LB, HOU: 12 Tackles (7 Solo) 1 Sack, 2 FF
Cushing was a force on Thursday Night, collecting
1 Sack to go along with 2 FF
-It happened again! The Week 16 Defensive Player of the Week comes from another Prime Time game. Houston Texans LB Brian Cushing was a force on defense Thursday Night against the Colts. Cushing forced a fumble on the first play of the game that led to a Aria Foster TD, and he also created another turnover later in the game. Despite his impressive performance the end result was a loss for the Texans, but I'm sure he will still take Defensive Player of the Week Honors.

Top Plays of the Week

Play of the Week: Jerome Simpson 19 Yard TD Catch and Dive
-It's not often you have two 90+ yard TD's in the Top plays, and it is even more rare when neither wins. This isn't your normal week though. The Top Play is what Bengals WR Jerome Simpson did to get the TD. Simpson caught a short pass from Andy Dalton then jumped and flipped over the Cardinals DB into the end zone, and he landed feet first. He earned 10's across the board for the flip and he earns Top Play of the Week Honors.
