NFL Rewind Week 17

Instant Recap
Records, Records, Records, Records, and oh yeah PLAYOFFS. That was this final week of the regular season was all about. In New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees broke records as the team finished 13-3. In Green Bay the Packers rested their stars but it didn't matter. Backup QB Matt Flynn threw for 480 Yards and 6 TD's (both Packers records) who is a FA in the Off season showed everyone why he can be a starter in this league. Jets RB LaDainian Tomlinson passed Jerome Bettis for 5th All Time in Rushing Yards in NFL History. Tom Brady and Drew Brees both passed Dan Marinos' record for Passing Yards in a season, and Saints TE Jimmy Graham and Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski also passed Hall of Fame TE Kellen Winslows record for Receiving Yards in a season by a TE. The Playoff Seeds were set with the Giants clinching the NFC East on Sunday Night, and in the AFC the Broncos and Bengals clinched playoff berths as well. The Packers, 49ers, Patriots, and Ravens all will have 1st Round Byes. Saving the worst for last the Indianapolis Colts pulled off the Loss and clinched the No.1 pick in the draft after narrowly choking it away the past 2 weeks. An outstanding 2011 Regular Season is in the books, and now we get what we all love. Playoff Football!

Defensive Player of the Week

Jared Allen DE, MIN: 5 Tackles (3 Solo), 3.5 Sacks

Allen fell just .5 a Sack short of the NFL Record (22.5-Strahan)

-For the final time in the 2011 Regular we have our Defensive Player of the Week. Jared Allen earns the nominee after his 3.5 Sack performance against the Bears, a game that almost brought him to NFL history. Allen fell just .5 a sack short of Michael Strahans record of 22.5 but he did tie the Vikings record. Allens 3 Sack performance was very impressive and even in a meaningless game between 2 Division Rivals,

Top Plays of the Week

Kellen Clemens 17 Yard TD Run

David Akers 14 Yard TD Pass

Marques Colston 15 Yard TD Catch

Play of the Week: David Akers 14 Yard TD Pass
-OK so maybe it wasn't the most amazing play, and it didn't have broken tackles, a diving catch or a deep throw but how often do you get to see the Kicker throw a 14 Yard TD. David Akers already set the record for most converted FG's in a season (44), and now he can add his 1st ever TD Pass to his 2011 Stats sheet. It was a beautiful call by 49ers HC Jim Harbaugh as it got everyone by surprise and it helped the 49ers win 34-27.

Andrew Luck Sweepstakes
-Whew! That was a close one for the Indianapolis Colts, they almost blew the perfect opportunity to get the No.1 pick. The Colts had a 2 game winning streak coming into Week 17 and if they had found a way to beat the Jaguars the Rams would have had the No.1 Overall pick. Fortunately for everyone, the Colts lost and all is right in the world again. They will draft No.1 Overall and they will take Andrew Luck with that pick, but what does that mean for Peyton Manning.
Could Andrew Luck sit behind Manning for years until he retires,
or will one of the two have to be traded.
The Indianapolis Colts Front Office will have several directions that they could go in. First, they could wait until Manning is cleared to play, then trade Luck for a stockpile of 1st and 2nd Rounders on Draft Night. This plan gives them more control as they could use the additional 1st Round Picks to build their defense and Offensive Line. It would give Manning evidence that they still believe in him, and it would give Luck the chance to be the immediate Superstar in another city. Another situation is to try and trade Peyton Manning. They risk having to eat a big chunk of Mannings' salary, and trading Manning would put alot of pressure on Luck and the Front Office. While it would allow Luck to start immediately in Indianapolis, he would have to deal with the shadow of Peyton manning performing in another city, and fans demanding that he perform just as well if not better. The final option is that the Colts keep both Peyton and Andrew Luck. The "Aaron Rodgers Method" would allow Luck to learn from one of the greatest QB's to ever play the game, and would also give him a few years to develop his Passing Skills more and learn the System. The Colts wouldn't get any Compensation out of it, and they risk upsetting Luck, but it seems to be the more reasonable of the 3 options. The Colts could go any of the 3 ways on this, but one thing is for sure. Up until the final decision is made there will be alot of pressure on all sides.
